10 Things Your Kids Will Love at the Westchester Children's Museum

5/19/2016

Today my daughter and I had the pleasure of visiting the brand new Westchester Children's Museum located next to Playland in Rye, NY.

As we approached the museum I was filled with excitement. Not only  because Westchester finally has it's own children's museum (hooray!), but also because it is situated in one of Westchester's most extraordinary settings. On one side is the picturesque beach on Long Island Sound and on the other, Playland. Nothing brings on that excited feeling more than seeing a roller coaster, ferris wheel and a stunning beach. Childhood nostalgia at its best!

10 Things Your Kids Will Love at the Westchester Children's Museum

Picture
1. Lighthouse & Slide- depicting the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, this slide comes complete with a mirror inside and a window for playing peek-a-boo.

2. Library Nook- cozy up with a great book with your child(ren). Check out the amazing cereal box collage artwork on the wall from  local renowned pop artist Michael Albert.

3. Toddler Beach- a large soft play area for toddlers. A great spot for parents to relax while the little ones have a blast.

4. Build Your Own Roller Coaster- mix and match different tracks to create your own unique roller coaster. Stairs help little children reach the top of the hills so that they can place balls on the tracks and watch them go (over and over)!
Picture
5. Wind Tunnel- grab a streamer, cup or paper bowl and watch it fly to the sky! A great way for little ones to learn science while having a blast (yes, over and over).

6. Magnets- have fun exploring with magnets. Use a handheld magnet and watch the colors on the screen magically change. Or try the floating magnets.

7. Giant Organ- use magnets and lift the sides of the organ to make it sing. Have fun  pressing different buttons to hear a range of notes.

8. Shadow Puppet Theater- have fun interacting with shadows and watching them dance.

9. Keva Planks- build your own train, house, airplane or whatever you can imagine using planks (or have fun watching them tumble  down).
