8 Reasons Little Spoon is the Ultimate Parenting Hack

11/13/2020

Picture
It feels like the phrase "Why didn't anyone tell me this was going to be so hard?!" comes out of our mouths five times a day as parents. When it comes to feeding our little ones, we think about it for every meal. Yes, we all know that nutrition is critical for our children’s healthy development— but between trying to find fresh, nutrient-dense meals to figuring out how to get our kids to actually eat their food, all on top of our daily to-dos, the anxiety can really start to kick in.

Little Spoon was started because of these exact pain points, so when we say we’ve been there, we’ve really been there. We created Little Spoon to make parents’ lives easier, with all of our products delivered right to your door and our community just a click, call, or message away. We know how crucial nutrition is during the first few years of life, and how difficult it can be to get your little to eat what’s good for them, so we do the heavy lifting for you. Our Babyblends and toddler & kid's meals, Plates, are made with recipes that keep nutrition and development top of mind, using only the freshest ingredients and free of preservatives, GMOs, additives, and added sugar.

Here are eight reasons Little Spoon is the ultimate parenting hack:

  1. Delivered right to your door
Put down the kitchenware. Little Spoon delivers fresh, nutrient-dense Babyblends and big kid meals right to your door. We make sure that all your littles, from baby to big kid, are covered at mealtime so you don’t have to.

  2. Nutrient-dense, balanced recipes
Little Spoon works alongside renowned pediatricians and nutritionists to create nutrient-dense, balanced recipes for your little one. We use fresh and diverse ingredients to expose your mini to critical vitamins, minerals, and key nutrients that they need at every step of development. Whether you’re looking for an immunity-boosting Babyblend like our Carrot Apple Ginger blend or veggie-packed Plate like our Broccoli Bites, we’ve got you.

  3. Clean, preservative-free ingredients
Most grocery store kids products have preservatives, added sugars, and other things you can't pronounce. At Little Spoon, making the safest, highest quality food for your little is our priority. That’s why we have a zero-tolerance policy for preservatives, fillers, additives, and heat-processing. Our Babyblends are made using 100% organic, non-GMO ingredients while our Plates include antibiotic and hormone-free protein, non-GMO fruits and veggies, and organic ingredients where it matters most.

  4. Meals for babies AND big kids
Little Spoon is there to cover everything from first bites to big appetites, making it easy for your mini to transition from Babyblends to Plates. Both menus incorporate a wide variety of recipes made for all developmental stages, so that your mini can eat right every step of the way.

  5. Say goodbye to picky eaters
From babyhood to big kid and every phase in between, Little Spoon is here to help your kiddo develop a diverse palate. Even from your babe’s very first bites, it’s vital to expose them to a robust array of flavors, textures, and foods. Our Babyblends are carefully crafted with over 100 ingredients, with options for every type of eater. Starting with our single-ingredient blends such as Pear or Zucchini will help prime your babe for the more complex blends that incorporate flavors like mint, spirulina, and hemp like our ever-popular Sweet Potato Apple Blueberry Flax blend. Introducing complex flavors helps expand your little’s palate until they’re ready to dive into our veggie-packed toddler meals. Our Plates menu offers everything from kid classics like Chicken Super Nuggets to adventurous toddler meals like Cheesy Black Bean Pupusas, packed with veggies and superfoods in every bite.

  6. Clean line of vitamins and natural remedies
From iron deficiency to cold prevention and constipation, Little Spoon’s line of clean vitamins and natural remedies was created to give your kiddo that extra boost. Sneak our easy-to-use powder formulas into your mini’s Babyblends, breast milk, water, you name it; say hello to your new superpower.

  7. Online community of mamas who like to get real
Ever find yourself asking one of your mom friends “but seriously...is this normal?” You’re not alone, that’s why Little Spoon created Is This Normal a parenting portal and online community of parents who like to have candid conversations about the ins and outs of parenting.

  8. Here for you, 24/7
We know that being a mama means absolutely no days off. That’s why Little Spoon’s Care Team, an epic group of mamas who just get it, are here to help you with any questions or concerns you have, day or night. Thanksgiving Takeout: Where to Get Your Meal To-Go in Westchester 2020

11/5/2020

Picture
Photo by Pro Church Media on Unsplash
Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, can you almost taste Thanksgiving? Many of us won't be celebrating in our usual fashion this year in order to stay socially distanced and safe. What typically is a trip out of town to visit extended family, a large family gathering at home or a Friendsgiving reunion, now may be a more intimate meal at home with your closest loved ones. Even though this year won't be typical, we still have so much to be thankful for and that is cause for celebration!

If you're not a cook or simply want a break from doing all of the cooking yourself, there are plenty of Westchester County restaurants and grocery stores offering to-go Thanksgiving meal options.

The below list highlights select local restaurants and grocery stores offering Thanksgiving to-go meals in Westchester County. If you have a favorite market or restaurant in your area contact them to see if they are offering meal packages. The options span far beyond this list. If you are on the fence on what to do, you can always go "semi-homemade" and make some and order some. By purchasing from a local business you are supporting a local business, and that gives them something to be thankful for.

Tips for success:
  • DON'T WAIT- Place your order early (like now!) so you can get your preferred date and time for pick up. There are order deadlines you won't want to miss.
  • BE PREPARED TO HEAT IT UP- Most pickup orders will be packaged cold and will come with reheating instructions.
  • LOOK FOR CURBSIDE PICK UP- Some restaurants and stores offer curbside pick up or delivery so if you don't want to have to go inside to get your food, make sure to choose a place that brings it to you.
  • DON'T FORGET ABOUT DIETARY RESTRICTIONS- Some restaurants and stores offer vegan, kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free and other special options. If you have a range of needs at your table look into à la carte options versus a full package.
  • CHECK THE PRICES- Consider your budget and how many people you are serving when deciding- there is a huge range in price across the stores and restaurants in our list.

Lucky 13 Hot Cocoa Stand Comes to The Westchester in Support of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation

3/4/2019

Picture
Impressive to say the least, two local boys are bringing hot chocolate in support of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation to Westchester County.

For the last 13 years, Evan, now 17, and his brother Josh, now 15, have been running a hot cocoa stand for charity.  What started out in their garage in Mamaroneck and moved indoors over the last 9 years has now raised over $40,000 for Pediatric Cancer Foundation. This year, Evan and Joshua’s Hot Cocoa Stand is moving to a new location in The Westchester, in White Plains, NY.

This year’s event will take place at The Westchester in White Plains, 125 Westchester Ave, White Plains, NY 10601 at Retail Level 1, Center Court, Nordstrom Wing.  The dates and times are: March 9th from 12-6 and March 10th from 12-5.  For more info, see the website at www.ejhotcocoa.com and Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s website at www.pcfweb.org.

In addition to hot cocoa, baked goods and raffles will be available.  Raffled items include sports memorabilia and tickets from the Mets, Yankees, Giants, Jets, Rangers, Knicks, Nets and Islanders as well as non-sports donations from local businesses.

“I’m really excited about the hot cocoa stand moving to this great, new location.  We raised over $8,000 last year alone at our first year at The Westchester, so I think we can be even more successful this time”, said Evan Greenberg, the CEO of Evan and Joshua’s Hot Cocoa stand.

“It’s hard enough for my wife and me to believe that the boys have been doing this for the last 13 years let alone that what started in our garage is now such a big endeavor. The boys deserve so much credit for its continued success,” said Ken Greenberg, dad and self-proclaimed CCO (Chief Cocoa Officer)

For nearly 50 years, this not for profit has been funding cutting-edge research and providing hope for children and their families. PCF supports research at 6 leading hospitals:  NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at NYU Langone Medical Center, Feinstein Institute of Medical Research - Northwell Health, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and Comer Children’s Hospital, The University of Chicago Medicine & Biological

Keep Your 2018 New Year’s Resolution of Healthier Eating for the Whole Family with Help from Local Meal-Kit Service Simply Gather

1/8/2018

Sponsored Post
Picture
It’s the beginning of January and you’ve already been snowed in with the whole family, wondering how you’re going to keep your New Year’s resolution of eating healthier this year. Help is only a few clicks away at Simply-Gather.com. Simply Gather was founded to help make healthy weeknight dinners an easy reality. It’s a hyper-local Westchester meal-kit delivery service that strives to take some stress out of your weeknight dinner routine.

When the wind chill is below zero and no one wants to go out, it’s easy to forget your plan and good intentions of making healthier dinners!  Simply Gather delivers organic meal-kits right to your door, in a reusable tote bag; all their meals can be cooked in 30 minutes or less, and the result is a healthy meal your entire family can eat. Simply-Gather.com has five new meals to choose from each week, including two vegetarian and multiple gluten-free options. Ingredients are almost all organic, pre-measured, and mostly ‘prepped’ for you – a lot of the vegetables come cleaned and cut already; the herbs are picked and garlic chopped – so all you need is a few basic kitchen tools (as noted in each recipe online, like a pot, pan, baking sheet, and olive oil; all stuff you would already have at home).

Additionally, Simply Gather strives to feature seasonal and local ingredients in their recipes. They partner with local Westchester and tri-state area farms, restaurants and vendors to source ingredients like produce, fish, grains, multigrain pizza crust, bread and tortillas. They also get their meats from nearby farms – Kiernan (Gardiner, NY) and Water Wheel (Sidney Center, NY) – and in January are highlighting produce such as squash, hearty greens, and citrus fruits like honeybells, pomelos and blood oranges – all from the southeast.

“We are excited about our winter menus and finding creative ways to make cooking at home simple and delicious for the whole family,” said Caren Weintraub, mother of two and founder of Simply Gather. “We know first-hand how hard it can be to find the time and motivation to do weekly meal planning and shopping. Simply Gather’s service gives you back the time planning, shopping and prepping take up, by delivering right to your door the recipe and ingredients for 30-minute meals your whole family will enjoy – even little kids!”

Simply Gather’s low carbon footprint is a major differentiator too. There’s no shipping involved, and every week when the meal-kits are delivered, they pick up the tote bag and ice packs from the week before. They use biodegradable plant-based containers and bags and if you return any of the packaging items to them they’ll recycle or reuse it for you. With no shipping, ingredients are really fresh and less jostled or damaged by the journey.

We all know how important eating dinner together as a family is, and Simply Gather has created a great twist on helping make that easier – and healthy – for you and your family.
