Holiday Events: 7 Virtual Shows & Experiences for Kids and Families

12/18/2020

Has COVID got you down? Sure, we're all feeling it. Not to worry, there is plenty of holiday cheer to be found online. Check out these 7 holiday virtual shows and experiences that will bring joy and delight to your loved ones.

Meet Santa, awe in the magic of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, watch the miraculous story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, celebrate the seven principles of Kwanzaa and watch the annual ball drop in Times Square this December from home.

The Santa Experience

Picture
We polled our social media followers and about 80% said they would not be taking their children to see Santa this year. With COVID cases rapidly on the rise it is understandable that parents are concerned about any in person contact. Well, there is good news. Now your children can see Santa live from home.

Get into the holiday spirit with a one-on-one live chat with Santa himself. Embark on a magical Elf-guided journey to the North Pole guided by Elf Pickles, Dimples, Bazzle and Tinsel. This is pricy one, but perhaps also the most memorable— starts at $64.95.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker

Picture
Recorded Live at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, The Hip Hop Nutcracker is a holiday mash-up for the entire family.

This contemporary spin on Tchaikovskyʼs timeless Nutcracker music is performed by a supremely talented cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hopʼs founding fathers, who opens the show. Enjoy a journey that celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season.

This is a livestream with on-demand video available after the show. You can watch it live, or view the video for a certain amount of time after the show takes place. A ticket is $25.

George Balanchine's The Nutcracker

A holiday season wouldn't be complete without the New York City Ballet’s landmark production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. This exquisite ballet performance was originally delivered in December 2019 at Lincoln Center. Enjoy Tschaikovsky’s iconic score conducted by Andrew Litton and performed by the 62-piece New York City Ballet Orchestra, hundreds of delightfully costumed characters, spectacular feats of fancy, and a magnificent tree.

Rent for $25 (your ticket includes a 30 day free trial of Marquee TV).

The Nice List

This Christmas, Broadway artists are coming together virtually, with you, to prove we don’t have to be together TO BE TOGETHER. This lighthearted holiday show is performed by a diverse cast from Broadway and Television and tells an original heartwarming Christmas tale with Santa’s magical workshop like we have never-seen-before.

Enjoy the Nice List FREE on YouTube during the month of December!

Celebrate culture, community and creative expression at NJPAC’s annual Kwanzaa Festival and Marketplace. The virtual festival runs through December 31, featuring online programs inspired by the seven principles of Kwanzaa (unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith).

Check out the virtual arts & crafts, available now! RSVP is required for some events, free.

New Year's Eve- Live from Times Square

Picture
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, NYE 2021 will NOT be open to the public this year. Instead the celebration will be virtual— bringing Times Square and the Ball Drop to the comfort of your home.

The Times Square New Year’s Eve commercial-free webcast will cover the action and festivities in Times Square, beginning with the Ball Raising at 6 pm, plus live musical performances, hourly countdowns, behind-the-scenes stories, and star-studded interviews as anticipation builds towards the midnight countdown and the famous Ball Drop. The webcast will be streamed live on TimesSquareNYC.org.
